The design has far exceeded what I imagined it would be. It has such a calming influence on me when I come in here.
I wanted it to look as good as it could without it feeling too much like a studio; to feel like a living space, not just somewhere to work, and it’s definitely achieved that.

Our client, a musician and composer, was looking to create a high-performance creative workspace that prioritised acoustic isolation. Using sensitive design and material choices, we fitted out the original architectural base-build designed by Jas Bhalla Works.
The design, influenced by Japanese and Scandinavian modernism, embraces minimalism and functionality, while creating a flexible space that can be used for both recording and performing music.

A bespoke oak frame system, covered in fabric, provides a focal point along one side of the building, providing the required sound-proofing at the same time as creating aesthetic interest and useful storage.
High-density concrete blocks, and a concrete roof slab with layered and thermal insulation create a further sense of cocooning, while a timber rainscreen on the south-facing façade also helps to prevent additional noise from the outside.
